Lives Matter at BHS!

Worldwide protests alert us to the fact that the very public death of Mr. George Floyd, and countless others, is evidence of a larger, systemic process. It is a process of subjugation and domination of people of color in the United States of America. It is a dark shadow over life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This socio-economic pall reaches from the womb to the tomb, plaguing American people of color. The past, coupled with present disparities related to birth outcomes, feeds the fear of physical and psychological trauma perpetuated by systemic, ongoing racism. While the infant mortality rate is a principle measure of the degree of disparate outcomes, it does not convey the hurt, harm, and anguish of a people. We grieve the loss of life to violence, in general, and the loss of life at the hands of those sworn to protect citizenry, in particular. Lives Matter! The most vulnerable are our mission, our passion, and our responsibility.
