Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc. offers a wide array of programs designed to engage the entire family and ensure a healthy childhood starts at home. In addition to our programs, we offer transportation to health care appointments and center services, and childcare for parents during classes/events at the center.
The Early Child Development Program
This program employs certified childcare staff who engage infants and children in developmentally appropriate activities while parents attend on-site groups or meetings.
Bi-monthly event to encourage daily reading to children. At these events, Child Development staff complete ASQ developmental screens and families get treated to story time and other developmental activities. Each family leaves with a literacy kit.
Our Parent Leadership group gives clients an opportunity to have a voice in developing and executing family engagement and advocacy opportunities at the agency and in the surrounding communities. Members of the group are also encouraged to represent Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc.’s clients at our CAN meetings and at other community events.
Our breastfeeding support group, Milk Mates, is a five-week program offered in partnership with Tannyka Coleman, RN BSN IBCLC, founder of Oh Taste Lactation!. Milk Mates focuses on creating an enlightening atmosphere for expectant and new moms to learn about and embrace the joys and rewards of breastfeeding.
Our GED® Test Preparation classes are open to the public and designed for adults 16+ years of age who have not earned a high school diploma and who are not currently enrolled in a school program. Instruction helps students prepare to take the General Educational Development (GED®) Test to earn a Maryland high school diploma. Childcare is available for Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc. clients.
Circle of Security Parenting
Using the COSP model developed by the Circle of Security Originators, our trained Facilitators work with parents and caregivers to help them to: Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs; Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions; Enhance the development of their child’s self-esteem; and Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure. Groups are eight weeks each. Transportation, child care and a meal are provided for attendees.
Fathers have monthly meetings using the 24/7 Dad Curriculum.
