Baltimore Healthy Start Happy Hour Fundraising Event!
May 17 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Join us at R. House on May 17th from 7-11 pm for a Happy Hour to raise funds for Baltimore Healthy Start!
In celebration of National Women’s Health Week, R House is donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc.
Baltimore Healthy Start works in communities with rates of infant mortality at least 1½ times the U.S. national average and high rates for other adverse perinatal outcomes (e.g., low birthweight, preterm birth, maternal morbidity and mortality) in order to address the needs of high-risk women and their families before, during, and after pregnancy.
Baltimore Healthy Start families frequently struggle to meet their most basic needs. More than one-third (33%) of the predominantly (98%) African-American residents in the Baltimore Healthy Start’s targeted communities live in poverty, with a median income of $22,629 (compared to $30,078 for Baltimore City). Choosing between paying rent and purchasing diapers is an everyday challenge for these families.
This event is also in celebration of recent women’s healthcare bills that have passed in Maryland:
1. HB 797/SB 598 – Menstrual Hygiene Products expands access to menstrual hygiene products for incarcerated women.
2. HB 787/SB 629 – Policies for Pregnant Inmates requires all correction facilities in the state to develop written policies regarding medical care for pregnant inmates and detainees.
In celebration of the bills, we will be collecting menstrual hygiene products for women in need! There will be a collection box at R House on the night of the Happy Hour!
